THE WIDER SITE

Reinvigorating Typhoo Wharf

Our ambition is to create a cutting-edge new home for BBC Birmingham that will be part of the wider rebirth of Digbeth, accelerating future growth in the city’s creative quarter.

The BBC Birmingham headquarters will be completed before the Curzon Street HS2 station opens, connecting the site to the rest of the country and encouraging further growth in this area.

Our plans for the wider site aim to reinvigorate the area around the BBC Birmingham headquarters to deliver up to 800,000 square feet of new residential, office, and hospitality space over the next five to ten years as shown in the plan below.

The proposals will be delivered via a phased approach, beginning with the submission of a planning application in winter 2022 seeking planning permission for the larger masterplan area. This will establish the principle of development and serve as the foundation for future applications.

It’s expected that delivery of the wider masterplan will include the demolition of some buildings as well as the delivery of new modern buildings and public realm improvements.

Most residential and commercial height options currently being explored for the wider site are between 10 and 22 metres. The highest residential height option currently being explored is 28 metres and the highest commercial height option currently being explored is 32.5 metres, as shown in the plans below.
